Valerie wears purple to help raise awareness of epilepsy

As Vice-Chair of the APPG on Epilepsy, I joined Epilepsy Action on Monday 26 March 2018 to celebrate Purple Day in Parliament. Purple Day is an internationally recognised day dedicated to raising awareness about epilepsy.

Epilepsy is a serious condition that affects the brain and causes epileptic seizures. In the UK 600,000 or one in every 103 people has epilepsy. Every day in the UK 87 people are diagnosed with epilepsy.

For Purple Day this year Epilepsy Action is focusing on the life-changing work of the Epilepsy Action Helpline. The Helpline gives people the support they need to live better with epilepsy. The aim is to open the Helpline for longer, on evenings and weekends, so even more people can get that vital help.

At the event I also met with a number of leading epilepsy organisations who work tirelessly to improve the lives of people with epilepsy such as Young Epilepsy, SUDEP Action, Epilepsy Society and Epilepsy Research UK.
