On Friday 8th July, Valerie welcomed singer, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan to the New Art Gallery, Walsall. Valerie invited Rahat, who is at the end of a sell-out UK tour, as a way of highlighting the success of the New Art Gallery to people who might not have visited previously.
Rahat’s hits include ‘Tere Mast Mast Do Nain’ from Dabaang, ‘Tum Jo Aaye’ from Once upon a time in Mumbai, ‘Sajda’ from My Name is Khan, ‘Naina Thag Lenge’ from Omkara and ‘Dil To Bachcha Hai Ji’ from the movie Ishqqiya which won him the Filmfare Award for Best Playback Singer in 2011.
Rahat was greeted by fans who had waited for much of the afternoon, despite the inclement weather, to meet their idol. During the event, Rahat spoke briefly about his life and his current UK tour before meeting and greeting his fans.
Valerie said;
“I was delighted to be able to bring Rahat Fateh Ali Khan to meet his fans in Walsall. For many people in Walsall, it is difficult to travel to the major cities to be able to attend concerts, so this was a very special opportunity. Rahat is an icon and he came to an iconic building.”
“I am very keen to promote the tremendous resource that we have in the New Art Gallery to groups who have historically been less likely to visit. Bringing Rahat has encouraged many people who had not previously been to the Gallery to come in for the first time.”
