On Wednesday 18 July 2012, Valerie and pupils from Whitehall Junior School and Delves Infant School presented Going for Gold Medals to the Prime Minister at Number 10 Downing Street, calling on world leaders to ensure that every child has the opportunity to go to school.
Valerie said:
“I invited pupils from Whitehall Juniors and Delves Infants to Number 10 Downing Street to present the Going for Gold Medals they made. The Medals were made and decorated by the children. Each Medal included a message to the Prime Minister as part of the Global Campaign for Education. The messages call on the Government to support the promises made by wealthy countries as part of the Millennium Development Goals to ensure that all children around the world are able to attend school.”
“This is a very important cause and I am delighted that the children have decided to campaign on this issue. I hope that the Prime Minister takes note of the messages presented by the children and looks into what further steps the Government can take to promote education for children around the world. Education is the key to sustainable development and empowering people to be able to help themselves.”
“The children from Whitehall Juniors and Delves Infants enjoyed their visit to Number 10 Downing Street and have shown that they can help children beyond their own community learning how to make a difference.”
